The Lost City of Z is the true life drama about Percival Fawcett. Fawcett was a British explorer who discovered evidence of a lost city in the Amazon. As a result, he made it his life mission to document the city. However, it would be nearly a hundred years before it was finally discovered by archaeologists.
The film is set in the early nineteen hundreds. Fawcett is reluctantly assigned to a British military expedition in the Amazon to survey the borders of two countries. Along the way, he discovers evidence of a sophisticated ancient civilization. After completing his mission, he returns to Britain triumphant for the success. His newly acquired notoriety gives him an audience with the most powerful members of the Royal Geographic Society. Fawcett then announces his discovery with artifacts in hand during a powerful speech. Afterwards, he accepts a challenge to return to the Amazon to discover the city that produced the artifacts. Fawcett furthermore dubs the lost city Z.
